I found this sand here it doesnt say the grain size so I wasn't sure. I was attracted to it because it was cheap and free shipping. Would this sand work well and does anyone have it? Should I wait and put out the extra $$ to get fiji pink?

Thats what i have in both my tank and the DSB in the fuge. It is a very fine grain(sugar) sand that will cloud the water for a few days till the biocoat begins to coat it and settle it down - great for any tank that has digging gobies or shrimp. Just dont point the powerhead directly at it and you'll be fine.

Did you rinse your sand before you added it? I plan on putting it in a pillow case and rinsing it out.

no, I no longer bother rinsing, there are more benefits to leaving the fines in than wasting the RO/DI treated water you just made flushing the sand you just baught down the drain.
all your really rinsing out is aragonite dust that has a far greater surface area for bacteria to colonize if left to settle in your tank than even the sand itself, its part of the reason this particular sand makes such a great DSB substrate.

I'm personally a rinser. I find if I don't, the slightest movement of rock at a latter date kicks up much unwanted dust. I don't use RO/DI, but sit on the edge of the tub with a 5 gallon bucket and rinse rinse rinse till clear. I like the pillow case idea and will be using it the next time.

I don't mind saying bye-bye to the dust down the drain. None of my actual sand leaves that way though.

If I do rinse it, do I have to use RODI or can I just use tap?

I would get the sand and if you do rinse I think using tap will be fine. Just let it drain well to minimize any impurities getting into the tank.
