I was planning on getting this fixture for a 20 Gallon Reef Tank.

I plan on adding some newbie softies and maybe 2 clown fishes to the tank.

    Nova Extreme T5HOx2 | Current What's Next

Would that fixture be good for a 20 Gallon Long?

    There is 1 460nm T5HO Actinic and 1 10,000K T5HO, both rated at 24W each, with a total Wattage of 48W.

Would this be sufficient for the setup I have in mind?

    TIA.

That would be an excellent lighting system for that tank, you would be able to keep pretty much anything with that.

I don't think you will be able to keep ANYTHING you want with a 2 bulb fixture like packleader states. Your advantage is that you have a shallow tank. The tank is 30", your light is 24inches. So there will be about 4 inches on each side without bulbs directly over them. I think this light would be perfect for a softy tank or other low light corals. I don't think it will be enough to grow the higher light corals. i would say go for it. 12" deep tank is pretty shallow and you may get lucky. I have the 18" fixture 2x18watts setup over my 10 gallon. Works great, but all I have is softies in there.

I'd go with the 4 bulb fixture.

Edit - that tank is very shallow. 12 inches. The 2x24 should be fine

Yea im gonna have to say that 2 bulb fixture is not enough to keep ANYTHING, i think you would have a hard time with more light demanding corals.

Remeber...Theres a difference between keeping something and keeping something in good health....Just bc its alive in ur tank doesnt mean its going to do well and eventually it will die, maybe not today or next week but in time if its not doing great....it wont make it.

If you do go with four bulbs it also give you more options

thanks everyone. I'll keep that in mind, but this is my starter tank so i'll most likely keep softies for now. eventually, when i get the hang of things, i'll move up to a 55 gallon i have vacant in the garage. Thanks again everyone.

forgot to mention that I'll be getting the 20 gallon Tall, its 24" wide, so the light will cover everything, except it'll be 16" deep I believe.
