There is NOTHING I could find in either of those articles (especially the first one) that relate to serpent stars bringing down fish.
The closest related statement was about GREEN BRITTLESTARS that will take on fish and other tank lifeforms.
While there are some varying shades of the green that can be found, it doesn't mention brittlestars in general will do this, and it definitely doesn't say anything about serpent stars doing so.
I usually have twelve of them at a time, down to eleven at the moment, and I've never in almost 16 years had one go at a dying fish. They have always waited until the fish has died.
I suspect there may be the odd one that will take on a dying fish if it is close to death.
I kept one in my first seahorse tank and it never bothered the seahorses either.

They are meat eaters but they are slow. Still does not change the fact they are predators and will eat any meaty products is they present themselves. Fish are normally too quick but anything is fair game.

The distinction I make is that they potentially could eat something, but generally serpents/brittles (excluding the greens) don't. Even the greens have been kept with other tankmates that are potential meals for it with no problems, at least for a period of time.
