From what I understand the nitrogen cycle is not an exact science and the time it takes to complete the cycle will be different for each tank. My tank has been set up for two weeks now and there hasn't been any tell-tale sign that its good to go. Now my LFS and I are having a disagreement. They are saying that until ALL levels are at 0, the tank is still cycling. My stand is that if there is live organisms in the tanks ALL levels can't be 0. They can get close but not actually 0. So. I'm going to post my stats for the past two weeks and would LOVE to see if you guys think the cycle is over or not. Here goes (might not be formatted well):

Edit: Ok, that really did not look good. I turned it into a google doc. https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AntucTvOuz9ndGxET0tfMnZRLVN1TjVXNlBBYTJ6WVE&hl=en

looks pretty close. but i'd go 2 more weeks.. why did u take the damsels out?

once amon. and nitrites are 0

and nitrates are up thats good. I dont think you should have done any water changes yet..as this messes with the cycle. others will chime in.

i would wait a bit longer to be safe. i also noticed you did 2 water changes. that will prolong any cycle , they are best left until after the cycle is finally declared over. but it all looks like it comin along nicely

I might have to jump the gun on stocking the tank. My best friend is getting deployed next week and I'm forced to take everything that's alive in his tank. He refuses to give his livestock to the LFS and would rather chance them in my tank. I disagree with the idea, but I owe him so he's calling those favors in.

P.S. It's kinda messed up, but he's afraid of not coming back. I don't really think I have a choice.

He's got 2 fish (i know one is a clown) and a few basic corals. He's running a 8g biocube.

might want to use some of this tank water to add to yours.. a few days before you get the fish. if he's only got a 8g tank, you might want to take the whole tank over your house. and wait for your tank to cycle.

a clown is part of the damsel family, so youve got a chance there , if youre not fully cycled. and since hes heading out and wants you to take them. go for it.

The LFS advised me to do a 5g water change. I split it up into two.
