I am building a 90 gallon tank with a 30 gallon sump. The tank has a corner overflow and came with a 1' overflow pvc pipe and 3/4 " return pvc pipe. So I plan on plumbing the sump using 1' for the overflow plumbing and 3/4 " for the return plumbing along with a Mag 9.5 pump. I am also splitting the overflow into both the skimmer section and fuge section of the sump.

Does that all sound about right ?

Sounds good to me. How are you planning to split the drain both ways? Tee and ball valve?

I plan on a ball valve to split the overflow to the skimmer section and the fuge.

If you mean putting a tee vertically that goes straight to the ball valve and the skimmer section, then the horizontal part of the tee going to the fuge, Youre good.

    I suppose a drawing would help. :-/

Basically yes, I am planning two ball valves, one to skimmer section and one to the fuge.

You could also dry-fit the plumbing and post some pics. That would help us find any potential issues in the design. :)

What if I do not put a shutoff on the drain into the sump. How do I know what height to set the baffles so I have enough overflow when the pump is off ?
