From viewing other posts I think this is aiptasia. Can anyone help confirm this for me. It is on a big rock that is seperate from all the others and I only see whatever it is (aiptasia) on this one piece. IF it is aiptasia, should I get this rock out ASAP? What do I need to do?

Looks more like a coral that grows with a mat, maybe star polyps? can you get a clearer picture?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Could be Anthelia or perhaps Briareum. Definitely not Aiptasia.

That looks like maybe star polyps or even possibly young anthelia. agree that looks like it's growing on a mat, so not aiptasia.

either way, I'd personally get rid of it just because those things grow fast enough to be problematic down the road... which is essentially the same issue folks have with aiptasia.

OB, if you are not familiar, anthelia can dominate your tank in a matter of weeks. It makes aiptasia look slow in comparison IME.

If you try to clean it out, in tank, you will have bits that get into the water column and they will start growing in the absolute worst places.

I would not remove it in tank. Either pull the rock and nuke it or smother it in a lime paste (pickling lime) (you can smother it 'in tank' if you can't pull the rock for any reason).

Just my two cents. But I do find the way it waves in the current to be quite pretty.

Can you define "nuke it"? I can take the rock out. It's a rather big piece but it's standing alone in the corner. It has other stuff that looks cool growing on it as well. Can I take it out and scrape it off?

edit: There's also what looks like little red mushrooms growing on it, they're soft looking cause they also flow in the current.
