    Dear readers--

I found a nice purple green wells brain coral on craigslist. Two questions:

    1) It's up for $60... is it worth more than that? less than that?
    2) What are the lighting requirements you'd recommend? I've got medium lighting (two 65W PC lights, I have a bunch of corals already that are doing great (pulsing xenia, blue spot mushrooms, torch, zoas, green clove polyps)

Thanks everybody! Image attached from craigslist.

I bought mine for that exact price a while back. A Wellsophyllia Brain. Mine is about that same size. It's really a rewarding coral. One of my favorites and really responds to feeding every now and again. They like moderate lighting and flow so depending on the rest of your set up I'd say that you should go for it if you really like the colors on that specific piece.

That's far from a deal, more like a high end going rate for a green wellsophyllia. If you like it, buy it, but see if you can talk him down a few dollars first.

It will do fine under your lights, as they don't need a lot.

Thanks everyone. I've talked him down to $40. Is that more reasonable?

How big is it? Have you seen it in person? Sounds like an Ok deal for a small one but it doesn't look like it has the best color.

    Update:

He's giving me a good deal on the green coral above, and he's also picked up a green with neon orange stripe scolymia that he wants to give me a good deal on if I pick it up tonight. It's 5" across.

What is this scolymia worth? Will my lights support it? Also, would I need to pick up strontium or anything like that to help keep it alive? I don't have any chemicals really and I've been doing great so far.

    Thanks!

    -David

Depending on the Size and type of Scolymia, I've seen them sell anywhere from 50-300$... All depends on the size and type I would assume.

Yeah. He wants to charge me $120 for both of the corals... I'm not looking to spend that much on it though. Here's a picture he sent me, told me he took the picture when the lights were off. Again it's about 5" across he says.

Unless you guys tell me I absolutely 100% need to take advantage of this deal, I'm going to grab just the green brain for $40.

I personally would just get the brain, Ive seen better colors on scolymia, granted the lights are out and that is a decently bigger one... But most of the cheaper ones I've seen Reef empire sell are about 2 inches smaller... and a lot more colorful. Just ask yourself if a scolymia is something you actually wanna stock in the tank?

Would say Its really up to you...

Seems like this guy might be a dealer of smaller levels. I dont think either one of the prices are a good deal and by far are not great deals. I would pay no more then 30 for that brain. But the thing is, if you like then its worth more to you.
