i have a 187 and currently have 17.8 times turnover rate ( from return, chiller and koralia 4 ) .

    My corals are

    Softies

    zoas
    clove polyps
    yumas
    mushrooms
    yellow polyps
    xenia
    green star polyps

    LPS

    octopus
    blastomussas
    hammer
    various brain corals
    torch coral
    acans

    SPS

    bird's nest

    Anemones

    BTA x 2

My reason for wanting to add a vortech is to eliminate dead spots and have a more random flow for my corals and fishes. Is it going to be too strong for my corals as most of them like low flow?

Honestly, If you are not going for more SPS then I would just get another K4.

I love my MP40, but I run a SPS dominated tank.
The MP40 is awesome at getting rid of dead spots.

Hi thanks for your quick reply :) My reason for not wanting another K4 is because of the strong direct current it produces, corals don't seem to like it and of it's bulkiness. You think the vortech will be too much for my tank? hmm..

Definitely not too much flow. Just a lot of money. The corals that you keep would not benefit it near as much as SPS. However, If you are not happy with the koralias, then go for it. I love mine, and plan on getting another. They are effective to about a 4 foot tank as a single. You can keep the K4 and add the MP on the other end with good results.

yeah it's a very pricey pump ! i heard the flow is broad , would my mushrooms and yumas like it? the current k4 is making the mushrooms shrivel :(

I have mushrooms and palys 4" directly in front of the pump and they love it. The flow is broad enough that it doesn't damage them.

I run mine at 100% in Reef Crest mode.

You have a 187 liter tank right? I would go with a MP20 instead of the MP40, but you can add the MP40 and just dial it back.
