is your coralife supper skimmer loud????

I recently purchased a coralife supper skimmer 65. I read many reviews that for the money, this is a great skimmer. i have it up and running and the "silencer" that is on the end of the airhose - that connects to the pump intake is loud. it almost sounds like a vacuum cleaner running all day. it is th loudest thing on my aquarium. Does anyone else have this issue, is it normal? thanks also, is there a better skimmer for a 30 gallon tank? many seem to like the aquac remora, but most people seem to feel the need to modify it. im just looking for the best HOB skimmer to keep the water the cleanest.

Got the 125 model... but never have any noise coming from the airhose. The only noise is the humming of the 500 gph pump.

 

sounds like your silencer is broken. mine would sound like that when i unplug the silencer.
my coralife does a good job but it does take up some room in a tank. and requires a few mods.
you may want to look into a octopus since you have a 30 gallon.

I had that exact same skimmer and tried to use it as a hang on back for my 29 gal. The thing "to me" was definitely super loud and a bit of a eye sore. I couldn't get the to be quiet no matter what I did. I suppose if it was inside of a stand in a sump I probably wouldn't noticed the noise as much. I sold mines on ebay and bought a AquaC Remora. I'm much happier with the switch out that I made.

 

silencer broken. I have the 65 and 125 and both not loud at all. Maybe try taking a air hose and reconecting it. Otherwise get new silencer. good luck

 

I have the 125 and never hear it. I would say the silencer is broke.....is it louder with silencer off? I can hear a slight suction with silencer off...and totally quiet with it on.

 

I made a silencer out of an old juice container. Just cut a hole just big enough for the air hose to fit into it, it quieted my skimmer to where I did not hear it any longer.
