i recently did some research into my dogs diet and found out alot of dog foods are good for your dog, and are made of cheap ingredients to save money.
here is list of whats in beneful(the worst dog food you could get) but you can look and compare you dog food to it

-Ground yellow corn (should NEVER be in pet foods, cheap filler that dogs cannot digest)
-chicken-by-product meal (should NEVER be in pet foods, these are the feet, feathers, beaks, organs of dead, diseased or other chickens unfit for human consumption)
-corn gluten meal(shoule NEVEr be in pet foods, this is simply the residue left after corn has been processed for other things)
-whole wheat flour (should not be used as wheat is one of the most common allergens for dogs and provides no nutrition)
-beef tallow (this is beef fat, which offers not nutritional value as most dogs do not digest beef and the fat is not the proper type to make their coats shiny)
-rice flour (should be the whole grain, not just the flour)
-beef (dogs do not digest this very well)
-soy flour(another common allergen for dogs)

heres some more indepth list http://www.dogfoodproject.com/index.php?page=badingredients
make sure your best friend eats well;D

I realise almost all dog foods will have one or two of the ingredients listed just try to makes sure there not the first ones.

OK I know I am cheapo... I go to my pet store every Saturday and there is this lady that gives me coupons for free can/frozen food for my dog each week. So my dog gets REALLY good food.. Plus I purchase a bag of dry to keep her teeth clean. You could say my animals all eat pretty good. I look at it this way. You're going to spend the money one way or another. You either get really good food for your pets, or you pay the vet to take care of all the problems they have because they aren't getting the nutrition they need.

Yea I never new there was a difference in dog foods untill I started working at Petco. There are a lot of dog foods that are pretty much crap. (i.e.Pedigree) I know just about every difference in every food now. Holistic dog food is the way to go. I myself feed my dog Natural Balance. There are a natural dog food that doesnt use any wheats or grains. Whish is good. But Wellness and Blue Buffalo are probably the best two foods out right. They are so natural You could eat them. But Wellness is expensive and blue buffalo is a close second. Natural Balance is pretty good and about less expensive than the popular Nutro natural choice( which isn't natural) and nutro max.

By all means if you guys have any questions on a certain type of dog food, just ask me and I would be happy to give my honest opinion on it. I have talked to all the companies and heard reviews from thousands of customers. But please be specific on the breed of dog you have, where you shop, what u are feeding them now, age, weight and what you are paying now for your dog food.

by the way. can food isn't as healthy as you may think. There is more nutrients and vitamins in the dry food then the can.( depending on brand) Can food is ment to be a topper for the dry food and less than 10% of your dogs total diet.
