I was doing some spec'ing on my very old house to possibly put in a very large tank down the road. I found a rather amazing article aimed at fresh water fish tanks (But takes into consideration the weight of rock) written by a structural engineer. It includes links to DIY projects for floor strengthening.

    Anyway, Enjoy!

Nice reading! Since I live on the second floor, yeah, I needed to read that. Thankfully, Mine is right next to the main beam, across the joists..... Whew!

Mine is only a 55 with a 20 long sump but it is also on a concrete slab that isnt all that level. It is about .4 degrees out of level but leans slightly toward the wall

Just something else to think about, your tank stand and floor may be able to handle all the weight, but hmm if you add a wave box and get all that water shifting back and forth
what kind of stress is that putting on the stand or even the floor for that matter?

my tank stands on a shelf i built, going on the estimated weight of water at 1kg per litre, thats 125kg's (ill give rock the same weight although in theory its probably more dense, so weighs more) i give the tank 30kg? possible more, a 10stone person weighs 63kg's, so my shelf i currently holding the weight of more than two people :), impressive. 1/4" thick pine shelf... maybe the two unistrut bars have something to do with the strength ;), mines perfectly level too.
