During the purchase of my 150 gallon aquarium, the seller threw in the Aqua Medic Turboflotor and Rio 1100 for free. I don't have any experience with this particular brand skimmer, but from what I've read, it's received fairly decent reviews. My problem has been in the lack of bubble production (zero bubbles) within the skim chamber produced by the Rio. A few things I have noticed that may be the cause are:

    1. The lack of a needle wheel within the Rio that specifically produces micro bubbles.
    2. Lack of an air inlet tube from the Rio.

Any input into this matter is greatly appreciated. Below are a some links to the skimmer, including the manufacturers diagram, the pump and a video of the skimmer (someone elses) in action.

The Rio pictured is similar, but not exact. I may have an older version but the same model.

Your pump needs to have either a needle wheel or mesh wheel impeller plus the air line for the venturi in order for it to work. It looks like it originally came with an Ocean runner pump.

I appreciate the input. I definitely believe he just through in any old pump. Although, I read somewhere that these particular models came either with a Rio or the Ocean Runners. I'll give it some thought as to whether I'll purchase the OC or buy the Aqua Euro 250. I haven't found any negative reviews on the skimmer so it's almost worth trying out the pump. I found the OR 1700 on AquaCave.

I have never personally owned an Ocean runner before but they do get good reviews.Just make sure whichever pump you choose is the correct gph. Good luck.8)
