Well I built a stand for my 90G DT but not calculating the sump size.(before I bought the tanks..) Well I later figured out that when the sump is in the stand, I dont have enough room for my hands to go in or to fit in a skimmer..
So know I'm at the point I'm going to sell the stand I have and re build. But I'm on the fence about making something more elite something that is accessible from all sides. IE) 2 doors on the front and a door on each end.. and have one end door open to have a control box(wire housing) for all controllers and drivers. So I need some guidelines to make this stand or anyone that has built one for themselves or a friend. Maybe even looking to go aluminum or steel for max space and max strength in a stand. Any plans/pictures are an asset.

    Thanks
    Kyle

I really liked the idea of having two front doors on the cabinet and one end door on piano hinges. Personally i'd steer away from aluminum or steel but thats mostly just because I don't like the look of metal furniture in the house. Metal furniture belongs in the playroom/garage.

No the Metal or aluminum will just be the skeleton of the stand there will be a very nice wood shell go on it.

i love the idea of having the doors at the end of the tank. I have seen a stand that has 1 of them and it was great. I however have never, ever attempted to build a stand so no help here! Would be cool to see and follow along

I built this one for a friend years ago:

A little bigger than you need but you should be able to scale it down. I had the welder place small L brackets in strategic locations and used carriage bolts hidden behind the trim pieces and wing nuts to bolt the skin on. Every panel is removable and there are doors everywhere as you can see. I used DIY oak doors from Home Depot along with oak plywood and solid oak trim.

Look on RC. It should still be either in the local reef club forums under the AZ FRAG club heading or in DIY or large tank forums. Search for buggle tank build?

I have not been on RC for years so am not sure though. I ditched any written plans I had years ago as this build was 8 or 9 years ago if I remember right.

I didn't put the side doors on my 100G stand and I used 2x4 and 2x6 construction but it is similar in looks and functionality and I built it high enough that I can easily get my skimmer in and out of the 30G sump.

Every stand that I have built was modeled after the same basic plan and only used 2x4's. The plan was pretty much the exact same as the one AZ just posted. Awesome stand and canopy by the way. What size tank and sump are we talking here again?

    I have a 90G DT and a 30G breeder that I'm working with.

What would be a decent height for a stand? What did you do for yours AZ? And have you just used MDF for the wood finishing?
