It DOES happen! Angler color change - black to orange

So I bought a Black Angler in October. I really wanted a yellow/green wartskin, but the common black was all that I could find after a long time searching LFS. He was dark BLACK.

Right around November I start to notice that he was getting lighter and had more spots - so I snapped a photo. Then I took a photo today for comparison! Wow... Does this appear to be a commersonii anymore?

So what's my recipe???
He's been getting 5 ghost shrimp per week and has grown from a quarter size to 3 inches. His tank has about 35 large red mushrooms - guessing he's trying to mimick them and will continue to change over the next couple of months.

Would love to try this with a quarantine tank and all blue decorations!

 

wow! do you think maybe they change colors as they become adults as angels do?

 

I have heard accounts of them being known to change to a color existent in their environment.

I also read that they change colors, but I thought that it was primarily the wartskins and painted anglers. I plan to update this post in a couple more months and hopefully he'll be more vibrant. Imagine if I would've paid the big bucks for a neon yellow and he turned brown red lol.
