the good news is, is thats not algae - it looks like diatoms
which are typical in new set ups- they feed on silicates in the water and when the silicates are used up they fade away
it could last 4 - 8 weeks and then just goes away
no need to do anything about it

part of cycling. everyone goes through this during the cycle. it will go away in time when your params level out. do you have any live stock in your tank right now?

Yes I currently have 4 damsels and 7 or 8 hermits which I just put in, 5 taliban snails, and some other snails which i can't remember what they are called.

Same thing happening in my new tank. rusty color on the one live rock, with pockets in the sand. I was running my light while cycling, but turned it off after hearing about others with same problem. They died off quick without light.8)
