DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW LONG THE EGG/BUG/tomite? CAN LIVE FOR ONCE OFF THE FISH(in the substrate etc?)??

It can take 8 weeks for your tank to clear of ich.

Garlic works to boost the fish's immune system. I also use Selcon, and love it. It helped my Hippo finally break the ich cycle.

I'm of the school of thought that it's better to keep the fish in the tank and feed it with garlic and selcon. The stress of moving the fish to a QT tank may do more harm than good in some cases. Imagine my 6" hippo in a small tank.

In any event, marine ich isn't quite as bad as freshwater ich, so don't panic.

IME a well fed previously healthy fish will be fine. i have had 3 different fish get it and all survived with no supplemental garlic etc.

I also supplemented with garlic before and it took care of it after a few weeks. Good luck!

I believe in garlic as a hunger stimulant. I don't believe in garlic as an ich killer. (Do some research on how unstable Allicin is and you won't either). However, if you have a garlic press and make your own garlic juice and IMMEDIATELY soak food in it, there's some medicinal use to it.

Quarantining all new fish and keeping your fish healthy is your best defense. That means feeding quality foods, soaking them in HUFAs and vitamins, and keeping good water parameters. Proper storage of dessicated foods (flakes, pellets, freeze-dried, etc) is important too. They should not be kept in a humid environment like your stand. They should be kept in your freezer.
