I was just wandering what you reefers have backups or extra of? I always have and extra heater laying around. Just in case my main heater craps out. I have to extra power heads. You never know, one could quit and I like to have a few extra for when I am mixing salt.

    Any other good ones?

Return pump. Kinda. Much smaller, but still functional.

I have a old MJ3000 that I am using until I get a new return pump.

    I have extra:
hoses of varying lengths and diameters, you can use hoses for tons of stuff
powerheads (maxijets are the best multipurpose ones IMO)
return pump (in case the main one dies at an inopportune time)
batteries for battery powered air pumps in case of power outage

Those are the basics of keeping a tank running, return pump, heaters and powerheads. Anything else you can go without for a day or two usually. If you're looking for other stuff I have on standby for emergencies that's a whole separate list.

Ooh, I got another. Salt. Enough for a healthy water change.

Duh, how did we miss this one. Not necessarily equipment, but it is necessary.

well im new to the hobby but so far i have the following backup:

-Salt mix (having a reservoir to hold premixed salt++)
-RO/DI water available for top off / water changes
    -One backup 800GPH return pump
-Heater (i recommend a test in a 5gal bucket or alike to confirm old heaters arent leaking stray voltage.. i did threw two heaters away that were really old)
    -Backup bulbs

I cant really think of much else I would need on that topic. Like Screwtape said, if you want a list of all the stuff one has laying around for emergencies, etc. it might be a much much bigger list. As you grow in the hobby of aquatics you tend to start stockpiling equipment, tools, etc. as you know that at some time you may need it.

I have become a pack-rat when it comes to this...

how about pre-mixed saltwater? Plenty of that laying around I hope ;)

I also keep a back up Ca test. Seems like I run out of bottle #2 kind of quick.

    Dry rubble for emergency fragging.

Super Glue and Epoxy. I always keep a bit of that.
