Dam, thats crazy! 3 different and separate tanks went through some kind of fallout all at once that only killed the fish? Do you have a significant other that likes to use fabreeze or other aerosol air fresheners? Is there any construction going on at your home? Unless it was something like a 50% water change for each tank, I doubt it was the water, but that sure is one hell of a coincidence.

    Sorry for your losses.

Thanks all for the support. The only thing I did today was change water - and instead of the amquel or Prime I normally use, I use aquasafe. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but when it went in (half dose), the black and whites swam away from it - unlike the amquel or the Prime. My only guess is that the sheer amount of gunk (it was pretty darn thick) just smothered the oxygen. My skimmers went gonzo - it was being filled within 10 minutes.

What really makes me shocked is that the feather dusters, the zoa's and some other misc stuff is just fine... heck I even found an emerald crab I didn't know I had in some maiden hair algae! I've spent the past four hours or so tearing down tanks and scrubbing live rock (well now dead, its all out in the rain) - everything felt slimy (more than normal that is). Can aquasafe go bad?

Oh well - feeling better now than I was earlier. Time to regroup and focus. I did manage to get a tank set up with the survivors - I've now got a 30XH filled with snails, hermits, and the emerald crab. One lone perc who's on his side is left.

I'm just made my Rainfordi kicked (more than the jawfish actually). Guess I need a new avatar.

Thanks again all - appreciate it.

I don't know if the Aquasafe had anything to do with it, but my LFS owner told me he doesn't like Aquasafe products at all. Again, sorry about your loss!

In my mind, with your set of circumstances--it almost certainly must be precipitated by the water change. That's the only thing the 3 tanks have in common. Are you using RO/DI water? If you're not, maybe something was added by the municipality to the water supply to temporarily address some issue?

Sorry for your losses, that stinks! :(

I'm almost wondering if something was added - I'd noticed a little bit more cloudiness the past week - but it went away after about 30 minutes.... The buckets are only used for the tanks, so thats out.

I'll do some digging to see if something was added - failing that (I use tap, and its been great for the past couple months), I'll look into an RO system.

    Thanks again.

If you think tap is great, you'll think RO is a borderline demigod. There really is a huge difference between the two.

And what Steve said, the logical place to start investigating is the water. I hope you find something :)

And that really, really sucks. So sorry to hear. :(

Man, I have 6 tanks (5 fresh and the reef) I would be totally devistated if that happened. I am so sorry. The first thing I would do is call your local water co. I believe they have to tell you or send you a report by law. I also noticed that you use alot of things geared toward fresh water....JMO. All you really need is straight dechlorinator. Of course RO/DI is best, but times are tight. All my best to you, and I hope you will bounce back. Make sure you find the root cause.
