Mom's too! Reminds me of growing up in Miami. We used to take our boat out and catch lobsters snorkeling - a glove in one hand and a stick in the other....to "tease" them out from under the rocks. It worked too! I actually learned this from my dad, along with how to make "clarified butter" - good stuff...

Clarified butter. . .. tell me how your dad does it. . .

It requires the water, and the milk solids to be removed. There are many ways to skin a cat, though. .

Every year, acemow. And no, you didn't miss it! In the 3rd week of July there's a "mini season" sort of to whet your appetite. Then, August 6, 2008 through March 31 it's open season. You can take 6 per day per person. Look here for more details.

They make their season between August and March because few people in their right mind will go catch their limit in November-January ;)

Mayo, salt and pepper, and some celery. That's it, John! Like I said, it's a very traditional simple recipe. I threw some Old Bay in there b/c I like the taste, but some New Englanders would frown on such an addition!

I'm under the impression that what an animal eats has nothing to do with how it tastes. As far as being "dirty," do you mean its diet? Or does it never shower? Or what? :) They're scavengers, just like shrimp--and some of the most delicious flesh on God's creation, if you ask me. How about snails? Bottom of the food chain, but top of my plate. Garlic and crusty bread. . . fugedaboutit!

Pigs probably win the award for filth, but I sure love 'em. Chickens don't exactly smell like roses, but I'll have a 1/2 with mashed potatoes, please!

And, yeah. A lot of farm raised aquacultured animals, especially those grown outside of the USA, are raised in water in which we wouldn't even consider bathing.
