it will be arriving on wednesday. As for the top, i bought the screen door material so i'll be cutting it and put it on top of the egg crate and give that a try, if that doesn't work i'll use the acrylic method

everyones hating on the price. prices are very subjective in the reef tank world. seriously most people spend that much just so they have ultra pure water for a year.

    kudos.

Before we built our canopy, and after losing 2 fish to carpet surfing, we used an eggcrate lid wrappin in nylon netting for screen porches. It worked great, we think. We didn't have a fish jump during the time we used it anyways :D

And I wouldn't worry about it blocking the light. You don't have any corals yet ;) Hopefully, by the time you get some corals that need the light, the firefish will know his tank and won't be as inclined to jump if anything should spook him. Our goby that jumped launched himself because he was already shy, and a new fish spooked him. Our firefish has hes "den" in the rocks, so if he gets spooked he dives down into the rocks rather than up out of the tank. You should be fine with your fishy, but there's nothing wrong in taking a precaution. As the firefish gets used to the tank, you can move the lid to a night time thing like we did. Had it off in the day time, and on at night.

And don't worry about spending a crap load of money on a critter  We spent $120 on a mantis shrimp! About $80 plus shipping. But, he's also one of the most sought after species on the planet to have, so it was worth it :)

yea, i honeslty don't mind the price, i just have to make sure i have the space on my credit card. And that's why i figured also, we spend so much on our equipment, whats so wrong about spending it on a fish :)

didn't think about the nylon for screen porches, but i think the screen door will do a good job, it's holes are much smaller than the eggcrates.

i hope it won't take to long for him to get used to the tank, i was hopoing to get my first coral this weekend, but right now there is just to much GHA growing that i have to wait even longer now.

and i agree it's woth spending this much money on the firefish, i mean after all it is a rare fish, i've seen the majority f the places online sell them for $200+ so i got a great deal, and it will deffiently be worth it, i can't wait for wednesday :D
