LOL! We just got done tearing apart a buddies tank to remove his engineer goby. I love the way they look, but good god they can make rock un-steady.
What do you think about a garden eel? Do you know how big they can get? I saw one the other day, but it was really small. I want an eel that can see. I have a friend that had an eel. The darn thing was near blind. I cant believe it didnt starve to death.
A lion fish would be cool. I keep reading threads about lion fish stinging their tankmates. Some guy lost a shark, I guess it is up to fate in that sort of situation.

I have never kept or seen anyone keep a garden eel so no comment on that. Stay away from ribbon eels though. They are tough to keep and skinny, which meens they would be a nice long snack. A lot of eels you put in your tank are virtually blind, snowflake comes to mind, and hunt by smell or is that taste?

As for the lion, the Fu Manchu lion is a bit different than most lions and the doral spines (the poisones ones) are much shorter. Here is a link to another site with some info.

Just be careful with what you pick Jeannie ;) Not to be a downer, but pretty much every fish suggested so far will very quickly outgrow a 55, and it will be tougher trading them out since we have no LFS :(
Congrats on the tank too! I like the looks of the aquascaping!

Pack always wants to rain on everyones parade. I'm inheriting a 46 tall soon and pack says my tastes are too large. And damnit that damsel was doing acrobatics not a death roll!

I really like the Fu ManChu Lion. I have to see how big it gets. Jeremy is big on the Miniatus Grouper. Oh ya and Pack, our friend that owns all the fish in the tank @ Sheels will trade us out for any smaller fish. He is pretty cool like that, so no worries on the loss of Ofishal. He can order pretty much any fish too. I know all of us here in Reno are kind of at a loss, so just let me know if you want us to contact him.

I would have to say that the grouper is out of the question because they grow FAST! The fumanchu lion is a great choice for this tank. Triggers would also, for the most part, grow too large for this tank and there's a chance of a trigger picking at the lion.

This is true. I have been researching today. I dont think I want a grouper anyway. Jeremy and I have been talking it over a lot.
Here are some possibilities: (now I know I cant have them all at once, Its a 55g afterall, but good to have options. I assume this tank could be like a boxing ring sometimes. I just want to avoid carnage)
Blackfoot Lionfish or should I stick with the Fu Man Chu?
    Zebra Frogfish?
    Lunare Wrasse?
    Hawaiian Blue Puffer?

That is really awesome. I will definitely be contacting you about that ;)

The Fu Manchu would be an excellent choice. Stays nice and small ;) I would worry about the wrasse only because I cant tell if the tank has a lid or not.
Basslets could also be worth looking into. They are fairly personable, stay small, and will hold there own in a bar fight ;) Same goes even for maroon clowns. Yep, I pulled out the clowns again :D Angler fish would also be EXTREMELY cool ;) Scorpion fish. How about a puffer? ;D
There that should give you something to do tomorrow :p
