It's what I think it is, right?

Even if it is a polyp wouldn't it be way too close to that chalice? It would sting the heck outta it when it gets big.

I had one of those several years ago, someone here not too long ago ID'd it as Galaxea fascicularis, of which I had a large colony in my tank at one point. Definitely not majano.

So thanks for all the responses. Here's some more background and answers to the various questions.

My initial thoughts was a Majano as well. Then I got to looking closer. Hmm, maybe a ball tip? Then I looked harder. Really looks like a polyp of some sort, thought maybe even an alevepora, but it doesn't look quite right. My best guess was still a majano, but I couldn't find a picture of one that looks like this.

So when I was just down to actinics last night, the tips glow. Hmm, interesting.

I do not have frogspawn, but I do have a branching hammer. All the polyps are intact. It is a fast grower for me that loves my tank. It both splits and buds. Yes Curt, I call them polyps as well, "heads" bothers me just the same.

I haven't added anything recently that this could have hitch-hiked in on. I state it that way because I have added a couple pieces of SPS a week ago, but I removed the ORA plugs from them.

It is close to the chalice, but that chalice is huge and grows faster than some SPS for me. It's literally just sitting there and I have to take it out every few months and dremel more off of it, so the proximity there isn't a big deal for me. The chalice also has some super long feeders, so it might take it out without any intervention from me anyway.

I'm willing to let this be for now if we all think it's NOT a majano. Epoxy trick was one thought I had as well; that can be my fall-back plan. I've never had any majanos and I find it quite puzzling if this is one, as to it's mysterious origin.

Might be a hammer baby. I suspect that many corals look alike when they're just starting out. Also, hitchhikers can show up months & even years after introducing something, so you can't really rule that out between something moving around where you can see it or something growing to a size that it can be seen.
