Filled my 58 gallon Oceanic with water, 80lbs LS, seven pounds of LR, and caught a couple snails, small Sand Perch, and a crab. Can't wait to actually see the other side of the tank.

Can't get pictures working, hold on. Can't figure out why they are sideways. I've edited them on my computer and in Photobucket and they still won't straighten. Just turn your computer sideways.

    WhooHoo, LOOKING GOOD!

Now is time to start studying up about what you want to put in it when ready...not for a good while yet.

    Take a look at:

A List Of Good Beginner Fish

Visit LFS and see up close what you might want to have...and how much money you want to spend...

    Ask questions here...

You want to choose a couple tried and true good hardy fish to start out with before spending lots of dough on something exotic.

    Good job.

Keep us posted...and keep those pics coming!!!

Has your tank cycled yet? You have a sand perch, if not cycled, he may not last the ammonia, as also the crab and snails. Just a heads, up, you didn't mention anything about it.

Hasn't cycled yet, but I was told even if it died it would be good for the tank? I added 60lbs of LR today so now it doesn't look so empty.

I think the warnings are meant to help save money. Losing costly investments (aka: fish and inverts) can be a major bummer if it keeps happening.

But, good luck starting out. The best part of owning an aquarium, in my opinion, is the set-up process. You seem to be taking a very DIY approach, which I wish I had done from the get-go; good for you.

To share some of my own practical knowledge, don't let your tank stray too far off course (which I'm sure you won't :)) cause once it does it will be a pain getting back, as I am now finding out. Best of luck to you!

I don't mean to play the role of the bleeding heart fish lover again but there's a fish in there?? It's not a fake fish just to look at??? Dude, there are threads running all over this forum about cycling tanks with live fish. It's not only monetary but this is a live critter ur just tossing in there. I'm not trying to be rude or anything, I'm just saying what several others who have read this thread are thinking.;)
