so this may be the most profoundly dumb question on planet earth... but i just dont want to mess things up--- When people put a dead shrimp in their tank to start/ accelerate the cycle... what kind of shrimp is it? Like shrimp cocktail status? Ghost shrimp? Cleaner? Peppermint? Mantis? haha ok last 2 were a joke BUT i kinda wanna know ;)

I will either join you in you profoundness, or answer your question.;D We will have to have some one else say which one.

I alwas thought they meant throw dead shrimp in to start decaying and kick off the cycle. Feed the bacteria basically.

I went to the seafood counter at the local grocery store and asked the guy for 3 raw jumbo gulf shrimp - was probably overkill but if your gonna do it then do it right :p

Dinner Shrimp is fine I would not use the fish bait type shrimp with the shell still on cause of the overall mess. This tank was cycled with a Clarkii Clown.

Not a dumb question....glad that you asked. Just use the raw, shrimp cocktail type shrimp. LOL!

Guys, cocktail, shell on, bait.....whatever. You are looking for raw shrimp flesh! Go back to your market and get the "Gulf Shrimp". Peel them if you have too. Depending on the size of your tank, toss in a couple of chunks. Freeze the rest. (They can only be from the Gulf of California though.....J/K, lol!) Hope we didn't confuse you too much. 8)

I was relieved to see someone else on here asking innocent, "profound" questions. I am always wondering details like that and hope the community doesn't tire of my "stupid questions".

    Thanks for joining me!!
