    Hi guys, just need an id on this lil one, found while organising corals no idea where hes come from! do i keep him - or remove him from my reef tank?

    i dont know what he is, but i would remove him to your fuge if you have one. crabs are rarely reef-safe.

    imo the body and claw shape tells me its in the Xanthidae familly but i cant find it. i dont think those claws r for scraping algae

    Looks like it might be a mud crab (Panopeus herbstii possibly) they eat hermit crabs a lot and other crustaceans.

    not sure about it being a mud crab they have swimming feet in teh back this one doesnt.

    No such thing as a "Reef Safe" Crab... ALL CRABS ARE OMNIVORES and opportunistic feeders. Those beloved hermit crabs will readily kill your snails and leave the snail carcus to rot just because it wants the shell.

    NO crab is to be trusted.
