Hey Kevin Good luck with them! I just spoke to my friend in Indianapolis and told her what you had going on and she said to tell you good luck too! She said that once they get a bit older and show interest in going out, let them. If you don't that's when they tend to start messing things up.

She said to Check out this site if you have any questions, Squirrel Place Or this one animaladvocates.us They both have allot of good info on raising Orphaned babies especially the 2nd one

She has had 5 of them over the last 20 years that lived in her house part time and in the trees the rest. They usually leave sometime during the 1st or 2nd summer, except for this last one, he comes in every night as soon as it gets dark winter and summer.

She has about 20 or 25 really old and huge Oaks in her front yard and back yard. And at any one time figures there is at least 50 Red and Grey squirrel in them. She feed the squirrels, not the birds all year long. She has about 20 feeding stations all over the place.

She said Mom might have gotten hurt, she has 2 adults that slipped on the Ice that formed on the trees during the Ice storms last month, they both fell about 40 feet and hit hard dry ground, she found one of them right on her stoop. Unfortunately neither of them lived through the fall.

You may have heard of pigs in a blanket, but this is Squirrels in a Basket :) Home Sweet Home for now is a wicker basket with a pillow cut open to burrow into the stuffing (which they LOVE to do), under the basket there is a ceramic microwaveable heating pad that stays warm for HOURS... :) And here they are on my arm/hand

i have owned 2 squirrels and have not had those problems. they are good pets but still wild animals. and the bonus is they can not get rabis. its best to release it unless instructed not to. its kinda tough to find a wild life place that takes them. i wish i still had them i gave mine to my parents contractor because i had no time for them. they are pretty awusme though.

    Cute little guys.
I wouldn't mind having some friendly squirrels around the house....as long as they didn't mess with anything you know....like chew on stuff.
Good of you to take care of them.
I had a young squirrel take up temporary residence in an apt I was in....it stayed in a coner by a book case near the front door...wouldn't eat or drink water from what I could tell...so I let it be...after quite a few days it went back outside. I'm guessing it was injured or maybe a bit sick but seemd to get better.

    Hope they make it.

I caught a squirrel once, It amazing how fearsome and scary they become when caged.

I assume yours won't be as bad since your raising it.

Both are doing great now...now that they are both eating regularly, lets hope for a bowel movement soon! :) Weird thing to hope for, I know...but hey its gotta happen to be healthy!...I dunno how long they went without eating before falling out of the nest
