I'm looking for a new return pump for my 60 gallon tank with 22 gallon sump. I have narrowed my choices to 2 pumps and need some professional opinions. I want the 1 inch MPT threaded output for the plumbing I have planned but I'm worried that the GPH will be to high. I have 5' vertical 1' horizontal, and 2 1" PVC 45 degree fittings. On the end of the internal return I will have a Barbed 1" fitting as well as the pump. I am using flexible vinyl to connect the two. The tank is rated for a 750-800 GPH overflow. Iwaki 30RLXT-940gph @ 4' or Panworld 50PX-X-1,110gph @ 0'. The pump will have a ball valve connected to it. Thanks for all your help!

I dont have first hand experience with either pump. If it helps, I just chose an Iwaki with an american motor for my 75gal build. Seems to be a pretty solid pump from the reviews I have read.

As for the flow, well 940GPH is prolly a little high for a 65gal (14x turnover) based on my readings lately you dont want ~1000GPH flowing through your sump. It'll cause problems for your skimmer potentially. I see they have a 750GPH pump, but for some reason is more expensive than the 940GPH pump? Thats rather odd.

You could T off the returns output before the ball-valve you intended to put on the return piping and use the T for feeding fluidized reactors or even a skimmer dependant on what kind you have. You could also do a PVC distributor off of the pump if you wanted to feed multiple reactors.

I realize when I mentioned the 750 GPH pump is 3/4" MPT, but you could always put a 3/4" to 1" adapter before the primary return plumbing. I also recommend a union there anyways so you can get the pump out for maintenance.

ReefSparky did a nice build with a Iwaki external pump and a distributor to his phosban and such if you want a visual idea search his posts for the sump build he recently did.
