I'm wondering if anyone knows the particular difference between the Iwaki MD40RLXT (Japanese motor), and the Iwaki WMD40RLXT (American motor).

Depending upon where you look, there's a price difference of $50 or more b/w the two models. They both have the same specs of moving 1200 GPH at 4' head, with a max head of 15.4'.

I can't seem to find any info regarding what separates these motors other than country of manufacture.

Anyone have any experience or insight to lend? :-/

I was looking into this a while ago. I couldn't come up with anything regarding how the motors are different but the general consensus is the japanese motors run quiter longer and are an all around improvement over the american ones.

Thanks for the response. I've been googling for days and only today was I able to find one remote hit--someone's opinion that says pretty much what you just did. The Japanese motors are supposedly quieter, and may run cooler.
