I bought an Iwaki WMD40RL about 6 years ago. Been running on a 135 gal as a return pump from my sump to DT. I only shut it down for about 5 minutes a day when i feed the eel. It was making a high pitched noise the other day which I recognized as a bad bearing (had same problem about 3 years ago). My problem this time is after replacing both bearings i put her back together and have experienced an unplesant humming sounding noise of some sort (original bearing squeel has been eliminated). For the record there are retaining clips for bearing placement so they should be positioned correctly. The noise is a little too loud for my taste so i have a temporary Rio 26HF to keep the system circulating.

I called Iwaki and have left 2 messages with them. They called back once while I was at work. Since then I keep getting sent to voice mail box.

    Any thoughts/suggestions?

6 years is an excellent run time for any return pump I think. I've heard only good things about Iwaki's. Hopefully they get back to you..

Ya the humm noise is greater that it was when it was running good. It has a different sound to it that the "normal" operating noise. Its definately too noisy to run keep running. I've been impressed with that pump though.. If i can get a hold of a video camera i will post a clip with sound.
