Nice tank Jay...I like the LR. I wish I could find great stuff like that on craigslist. How are your params? Let's see some coral in there!! Maybe you said this earlier...but what kind of lighting do you have on that baby?

i can take a picture with it sitting inside of the sump sure, my problem is the sump is such a tight fit under that stand the only place the skimmer would fit is if the inlet to the skimmer was in the first section and outlet was dumping into the fuge and well the height of the sump is 16" and the operating level is like half that leaving about 8 inchs of wall for the hob skimmer to hang over.

thanks! i have very poor lighting as of right now, that is all i need though. im actually shoping for one (its hard when you have 30" length tank)

Oh, got ya. Can you fashion some kind of ramp for the water to run down from the skimmer outlet? If you do it right it could work as an algae scrubber.

haha your right i didnt think of that, probably perfect flow and width coming out of the skimmer, and there is lighting already shining on it for the fuge. you may have given me a project mike :)

I have been thinking of doing the same project. All I know so far is that the surface needs to be very rough. Post some pictures if you try it.

    Finally!

So after browsing 3reef Trading for locals, searching craigslist and calling 15+ Fishstores in a 50 mile radious of me over the past 3 days, i finally found some chaeto!

a little place 10 miles from my work had one handfull left.

its got alot of growing to do :)

would a few Mangroves be ok in there? or would they be choked out by the chaeto at some point?

i must say i like you tank. its looking nice. i my self am just starting out and reading your post and see your tank come along is very inspiring. i am doing about the same setup that you have. something i was wondering, i noticed that you didnt added all of your live rock at the same time. i didnt know that adding LR could be done that way. that will help me out alot as far as money because i thought i had to buy it all at once. so thanks, my question is though, did it cause you any problems adding a little at a time (cause a cycle...) and how many pounds give or take do you think you added each time?

They would be fine. Mangroves get most their nutrients from the roots. Any photosynthesis they need they will get from the leaves that will be out of the water. They are the toughest plant I have ever come across, and as far as what I've experienced grow in any conditions.
