It won't as much as you think because they usually have good exhaust fans.

Overheat? I doubt it; they most likely wouldn't sell it then

    Hi Katie
a cut and paste from the write up/ description on the set up below
but I would agree, my 1st instincts where that heat could be an issue with 150 watts of HQI over that tank in an enclosed canopy

    Stay Cool
The secret to our running canopy is our artistic canopy which also serves as a key factor in heat dissipation. All canopies are made from Flame Retardant ABS Plastic. The 4 cooling fans are paired on 2 separate circuits in case one set of fans were to ever lose performance or fail. We`ve even gone one step further as a safety feature and added a thermal protector into the canopy. In the event all fans fail... the thermal protector will automatically shut off the HQI lighting until temperatures reach safe conditions from the excess heat.

Im stuck between the Biocube 29, or the JBJ 28. I really like the HQI version but Im not going to be keeping coarls that are going to need that, SO maybe Just the normal ones with the hood would be good. Ha that rhymed :)::)

the normal ones with the hood for non SPS that does sound good
but in future you may regret the fact that you did not get
    the HQI option you could

and although it is your desicion, the JBJ looks like a good un
the coral options increase, no concern with the heat
so if you choose HQI , you'll be golden

Hey katie. I have the jbj 28g with cf-quad stock hood. Right now Im keeping frogspawn, anthelia, zoas, and acan under stock lighting with decent coral growth. I did end up putting an extra Koralia nano powerhead in mine for extra flow. As for the bio cube, I honestly think it looks better, especially the stand, but I like having two returns on a wavemaker. I also just broke down and purchased a tunze 9002 skimmer and inTank collection cup. Its not required but I strongly recommend either upgrading the stock media basket to an inTank media basket, or get a small skimmer. Bookmark InTank Media Baskets
they have great upgrades if your getting into the nano world

If it is between the jbj or biocube go with the jbj no question. It's light years beyond the biocube. I have been thinking of getting one myself for a nano build.
