Can someone recommend a good external pump for a JBJ Auto Top Off system?

    +1 aqualifter
It's perfect because it can run dry with no harm to the pump. Pretty fail safe.

It really depends on how large your setup is. I've had larger setups where the Aqualifter wouldn't pump in enough over the 3 minute timeout that the JBJ has built into it (cool feature, but can be annoying). If you run a large sump, you might want to look into a Maxi-Jet pump. On my last sump setup, I ran an Eheim 1262...but I had a lot of head to push through.

I use the Aqualifter which is a superb pump for slow additions of water. It is important to point out that the head can't be more than 3' or 4' which is the maximum they can handle. More head = less flow.

Make sure you set the timer in the JBJ ATO to a high minute setting since the aqualifter runs very slow.
