I measured the glass and looks like it is 7/16th.

I inspected the seams, silicone and stand and am very pleased. I specifically asked for contemporary looking stand, and while it's not exactly modern/flush/euro looking, it's contemporary enough for me :)

    Thanks guys.

I forgot to take pics of the sump, which is huge!!! It's 30x30x18. Can't wait to start plumbing.

Should I do a leak test now with existing flexible hose plumbing? Or plumb first?

How do you drain one of these suckers most effectively?

If your just doing a water test I'd drain it with a garden hose out the front door. Maybe cut the metal end off so you don't chance scratching it.
I don't know if I would plumb it first or do a water test before just to make sure nothing got damaged during shipping. Decisions, decisions :)

Yours does look a bit different than mine, the stand doesn't have as much moulding around the edges. I'm glad you like it.

Did a little bit of work this weekend.

First, installed some nice pulls on the cabinet. It's amazing how few pulls can alter appearance of the cabinet. Little investment makes the whole thing look at lot more high end:

Made sure the skimmer fits. There's plenty of room left. I should be able to add 2 baffles to the skimmer chamber to make a bubble trap:

I then put in the overflow pipes in, tightened the bulkheads and attached temporary braided vinyl tubing, so I can do the leak test on the sump and tank before I plumb everything.

    Filling it up:

    Temporary sump plumbing:

Added MP40s to make sure they work fine and have no bearing/noise issues. Looking good:

Few things I've noticed. The return pump is pretty noisy. It just has this loud electrical hum. Can someone recommend a very quiet 1000-1200 gph internal return pump? The quieter the better.

Return siphons quite a bit of water back when pump is off. But breaks siphon eventually. Worst case scenario it can drain about an 1" of water below overflow edge as that is where first return opening hole is. But it usually break siphon earlier than that. Besides adding check valve to the return, is there anything else I can do?

Main overflow pipe is 1 1/2" reduced to 1" at the bulkhead. When it goes full siphon, return pump cannot keep up and water drains below intake, sucking some air back in. For now I have it dialed in where it never goes full siphon, but it's a lil noisy due to that. Do you think stronger return pump and a better valve (gate instead of my temporary ball) should solve this?

    Thanks.

I would add siphon break holes closer to the water surface. I have found 3/16" holes seem to work best. Make sure and add two holes opposite each other on your return.

Actually you made need to go the other way and run your return slower to lower the noise level. Place your return pump on a kitchen sponge or a mouse pad to help cut back on the hum.

    Finally, some progress

I've been gone from forums for about 2 month now. Life got crazy busy.

This weekend I had finally some time to work on my tank. I haven't touched it for 2 month. But I've definitely went all out this weekend :)

    - Got all plumbing done, quite a bit of pvc work :)
    - Dialed in overflow. It's running full siphon on the main and barely (if at all) dripping into the emergency drain. It's as silent as it gets.
    - Since my sump is Skimmer -> Fuge -> Return type, I've diverted some of the drain water from the main drain directly into fuge chamber. The volume is controlled via gate valve and I build a spray bar to create a nice even slow flow through the fuge.
    - Got skimmer hooked up and breaking in. I am running 100% fresh tap water through the whole system now. Does skimmer actually break in running fresh water?
    - Mounted spectrapure dual chamber gfo/carbon reactor and got it running without media now.
    - Mounted Apex controller, 2 power bars, additional modules.
    - Mounted 2 dosing pumps (for 2 part)
    - Ran wiring for skimmer, lights, vortech mp40s and return pump into apex power bars.
    - Got everything labeled (controller ports, controller setup online, wires)

    Things left to do:
    - Drain, aquascape, fill with salt water
    - Place and wire heaters
    - Place and wire apex probes (2x temp, ph, conductivity)
    - Place and wire float switches for ATO, write apex code for ATO
    - Get Apex WXM working with MP40s

And finally pics of my handy work:

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    I have slacked off.

What a wonderful system it's turned into. Pro job on hanging the fixtures.

Tip, I am not sure rubber duckies are reef safe, might even need a bigger tank.

It's my daughters duckie, and she asks me to lift her up and let her see how it's doing at least 2..3 times a day.

So far she has been pretty good about staying out of cabinets. My old tank does not have a sump, a lil worried she might "help" with this one.
