Definately a lot of evap but I think that is a good thing. How many reefs in the ocean are covered by a lid? Good gas exchange.
I have a JBJ Ato setup with an MJ600 and I probably go through close to 4 gallons a week sometimes more sometimes less. More since winter is here and the air is so dry.

Love the AI Nano. It is amazing. Have it hooked up to a controller. Found mine for $250 from someone who had to break down a tank on short notice.

The big selling point for me was the resale value of AI products. If I ever upgrade tanks and need a bigger light I can get a good amount of $ back as opposed to an HQI fixture that drops so much after you buy it.

I also figured if I run it for one year the cost of replacement halide bulbs and electricity makes it a sound investment and not that far off of running a HQI for one year.

i think led's have a better resale value like you said than any other sort of light fixture.

Not too familiar with those units but the biggest selling points were:

The controller- timers and ramps are amazing
PAR- the light this unit puts out is unbelievable. I think the whites are XML leds which are much more powerful than older LEDs. Also the blues and royal blues have a deep reaching par value. Most par meters are unable to read this spectrum so any measured par is much higher
Resale- I believe the AIs have the highest resale value of all LEDS

    JDK,

Are you still using the same light settings and intensity that you listed in the first post?

    Thanks.

Wow its been a while since my last post. Lots of things....

I have ventured into sps and also added a maxima clam. My lighting schedule is now much higher and longer in order to keep the sps. I am slowly losing two of the sps frags but I blame myself for not turning up the intensities fast enough. I was really worried about cooking the corals with too much light but it appears to be the opposite. A couple are dying from lack of light. However, I have increased the light a lot this week (about 20%). I had planned on increasing 5% each week but this seems to have been too little.

    My current schedule is

    10AM 70/65/67 180min ramp
    7PM 0/4/4 180 min ramp

I wanted to keep the light schedule simple so I could modify it easily after I added the sps and clam.

I am planning on getting up to 100% within 10-14 days depending on corals reaction.

My ORA pearlberry and redplanet have tips that are dying. They are NOT bleaching but dying. I believe this is due to lack of light. They have been in close to a month but I dont think I raised the %s fast enough for them Hopefully they will pull through.

However the Garf Bonsai is beginning to encrust and colored up nicely since I got it and the Tyree pink lemonade looks OK, a little brown but the tips are fine and it is not losing tissue like the ORA pieces.

    Will post some pics soon.
