    ok, stupid question...can you buy the actual pump without a wavemaker or is that just how it works?

    No it is the DC powered pump and the controller which powers and controls it. You can't just plug it in the wall since it is DC powered but you can get an adapter cable and power it with some other controllers like a Reef Angel. The controller is what makes it so desirable since the powerhead is pretty much like any other powerhead without it.

    Bought 2 of them for my 75 and love them.

    I got two wp25s on my 55 tall dialed to low and they are great. got them both on eBay. the one I got used just needed the ceramic bushings replaced and it was dead silent again. they have a lot of muscle that nearly killed one of my acros from being blasted.
