    New equipment

Received my FlipperCleaner today. The non-bladed side works great, cleans what the other left behind. I'll be testing the blade side with my water change this week end. Also received my Ecoxotic Stunners (445nm Royal Blue and Magenta/453nm Blue). They pick up colors in the corals that the 14K doesn't.

Looks like setting up the Reef Angel dossers will be my next project. I've been dosing three times a day, but I think the corals would appreciate a more consistent flow of calc and alk.

That's correct. I also have the skimmer and the bio-pellet reactor tied to the same electrical connection. That way when I shut the skimmer down for maintenance, the bio-pellet reactor goes down with it. Just an extra precautionary measure. Also I would give your tank at least 4 weeks before you bring the bio-pellet reactor on line. Otherwise, it will slow the maturity of the tank.

If you use the same salt that I use, be advised that your skimmer will go nuts for up to a day after water changes. Something about the trace elements in the salt. I just turn my skimmer off for that day to let the critters/corals absorb the nutrients.

Also, I highly recommend that you add the light shield I added. It stops the algae formation in the back tank, and keeps the snails and other critters out of the back.

What salt are you using? I was thinking of using the redsea salt. What type of shield are you using?

    Salt and Shield

    Jonthany:

I'm using Tropic Marin BIO ACTIF Salt. And the shield is a DYI that I built. Note that the description below relies on the supports for the 92 watt Skkye Light Tablet LED as part of the bracing:

    • Picked up an acrylic sheet from Home Depot and cut a 22 3/4" x 5 1/4" piece from it.
    • Painted it black on one side and let it cure for two days.
    • Ordered 4 additional mounting brackets that are used for the glass insert from Innovative Marine, and placed them across the back overflow to support the shield.
    • The shield rests on the glass brackets with the braces of the light to keep it at ~45 degree angle.

Marine Depot is where mine came from. I have addressed all issues I discovered in my thread.
