    Received and Installed new Skimmer

Received my Hydor Koralia Nano-Skim late this afternoon. Interesting, I had to build it from the shipped parts. Never encountered this before, but at least now I'll know how to put it back together after periodic cleaning. It's installed and breaking in. Putting it in the first chamber from the overflow provides a bubble break before the water hits the return pump so the micro bubbles are minimum. I'm hoping they will go away completely after it breaks in.

    Changes

The skimmer worked fine through the night. Don't like to put a new piece of equipment in place and go to bed. So far it looks like I have a winner. Adjustments work as described, and no off/on again with the skimming.:)

I need to reprogram my Reef Angel for the skimmer port to be on all the time AND:

    • Shut down with feeding and water changes.
    • A one minute delay at power on after the feeding and water changes to allow for the correct water level at it's feed.
I've made the changes to the code, but need to wait for daylight to upload from my laptop to the controller - Just in case there is a problem.

I also need to start close monitoring of ALK and Calcium and adjust for my corals arriving tomorrow.

    Must be test kit error

I've been getting some funky readings on my calcium. Using API Reef Master test kit for it.

    • Salinity - 1.026
    • Ph - 8.01
    • Phosphates - 0
    • Nitrates - 0
    • Alk - 9
    • Calcium - 360 to 380.
I'm using Tropic Marin BioCalc - I have the larger container and have been dosing one of their measuring spoons per day which would raise 10 gallons by 28ppm - I have 27 gallons (10/27) * 28 which should be ~10ppm per day for the past 4 days. Instead, it went down by 20ppm. My ALK is at a level that I feel may be high - it is also derived from the BioCalc dosage. At this point, I'm starting to doubt the API results completely.

I hate the color guessing test kit as well. I want all the Hanna checker tests!! Phosphate, calcium, alkalinity etc. I can wish, right?
