I was wondering if there is anything I can toss down my overfills that will eat bryopsis.

I have the strangest problem.....one of my two overflows is infested with bryopsis, the other is fine. To make it more odd...I dont have ANY in my tank! I have had this problem in the one overflow for a while...so I dont think it will spread, but I do want to get rid of it.

I have tried blocking all light in the overflows with sponges, turned lights off for week, increased my magnesium, but nothing! It is now growing outside the drain openings I know if I manually remove it it will spread

All my levels are good...kH I keep at 12 to 14, ca 440 to 500 and mg at least 13K to 14k. My SG is 1.027, no ammonia, nitrates or nitrites. I run phosban, carbon and regularly drip kalk into that overflow.....

So is there a snail, crab etc that I can put down there?

thats weird. have you tried to take one of your snails and put it in there? any herbivorous snail should eat it.

There are certain nudibranches that will eat it, but they are hard to come by. I believe it's called a lettuce nudibranch.

That's not true with Bryposis, most herbivore animals will not eat it.

they will but its not necessarily a 100% kill all solution.... it'll take a snail a long time to clear a large area of it. nudibranch work too because they are herbivorous too but some of them require flatworms i believe and if they run out i think they die. i did some research on them awhile ago when i was reading up on various clean up crew items but i cant recall exactly. i recall their being some issue with keeping them alive.

i used snails in my 10gal nano to rid my bryopsis

from what I read and understand, snails and crabs can not eat it because of the toxins in the bryopsis.
I have tried the increase mag, but maybe I will try again.
    thanks all for the info

Well first, the internet is wrong on a lot of things. Second, are you sure you had bryopsis? There are some Caulerpa species that look very similar to it, there are also various species of bryopsis, some easier to handle then others. Ask people who know they have had it and see how many of their snails, chitons hermits and nudibranches eat it.
