Here is my Madagascar Lace plant. It is kept under high light conditions and in 80 degree water.

Thank you, when I first started keep planted tanks the Madagascar Lace was sort of the Holy Grail plant due to the difficulty of keeping it healthy and it's price.

LOL thanks Vinny I can't seem to count today. I didn't bother to double check to see what page the post was on either.

That lace looks insane John. I know for a fact to stay away from that plant in my planted tank. Difficulty of keeping that is pretty tough and I've gotten kind of lazy of late, I freaking got the doser for the reef. Definitely getting lazy.

Thanks Travis, they are not as difficult as we are lead to believe. I just keep the substrate well fertilized around the bulb and it does the rest.

    8-21-11 pic

Here is a pic of the tank this week.

I have used H2O2 to kill off the hair algae I am experiencing before I start using pressurized CO2 and a more aggressive fertilization routine to cope with the high light level and CO2. After turning off all flow I used 1ml/G directly on the offending algae last night and 2ml/G this morning before I did a WC. I let the H2O2 sit on the algae for 1/2 hour before turning on the flow last night and turned the filter on after an hour. I started the WC after 1/2 hour this morning. After the lights came back on I started to remove all easy to remove algae, which should have been done before starting treatment to make it more effective, and found it to be in very bad shape. I would suspect that it would have been far less tomorrow since it was breaking down. There is potential to kill some fish such as Ancistrus spp. and Dwarf Corydoras species with dosing above 1ml/G. Some snail species and Ornamental shrimp can be affected also.

Dangit John my wife is going to kill you if I try talking her into starting freshwater tank lol. I keep showing her pictures of your tank and every time she's like you are not starting another aquarium lol. I just love the lush foliage look of a planted tank though. I just such a hard time battling nuisance algae when I had one. Do you use ro water for water changes?

Thanks, let me know if you do so I can go into the witness protection program.

I do use RODI for water changes now. I am finding out the more light you have the more important it is to have your fertilizers balanced. Just like dosing a reef tank.
