I caught one this spring fishing in the Mississippi. I was a shovelnose sturgeon about 2 feet long.

I can't wait to get smacked in the head by one of those asian carp. Anybody seen those on the news?

Those buggers just got to my neck of the woods in the last couple years.

We have green and white sturgeon up here in the Columbia River. I have caught 3 that were all over 12 ft. Catch and release of course..... Didn't even take them out of the water. 2 of them were accidental catches, I was actually fishing for salmon; the other one I was fishing for sturgeon, but we have a size limit here of 60". They don't even start breeding until they are large size, I think over 5 foot, and it takes them many years to get that big. They have recorded sizes of sturgeon in the Columbia over 20 feet long. They've also got some razor sharp spines running all down the side so handle with care!! lol.

I fish with a guy that just started fishing this year. Me and my other buddy raz him for being such a total newbie and he is older than the rest of us. one of his newbie things is he is afraid to touch the fish. He got a fish handling glove from walmart that he trys to put on every time he is landing a fish. (Ha Ha look at the newbie)
I caught that sturgeon and was trying to take it off and it keep shaking

That glove went on real quick.
I looked up that sturgeon I caught on fishbase.org and found out it was on the Red List. I kinda thought it would be but that fish went back real fast!

They look prehistoric becasue they pretty much are. Fossils that have been found compared to the current fish are not much different. But they are a cool big looking fish thats for sure.
