im quite new to this, i have a 100gal tank, it is a juwel rio 400 converted to SW, problem is the stand doesnt have room for a sump, so i plan to build one and have the tank drilled, my quiestions are

what size hole needs to be drilled, were abouts, how many?

the tank is currently stocked would it be ok to put everything in my 24gal for time being??

can anyone give me some instructions or pictures or something to help build a stand?

heres a link to my other thread with a list of stock http://www.3reef.com/forums/tropical-fish/clown-trigger-porcupine-puffer-dragon-wrasse-56305.html

    thanks guys

I don't recognize any fish in your thread that would require much more than a 24g tank. The size and number of holes depends on your pump and whatever you prefer really. You can you with a center overflow, one on each side, one on only one side. Up to you really. Look up to see how much gravitational flow you can get through the corresponding hole sizes and have it drilled based on your requirements. I would suggest getting it drilled quite a bit larger than is required in case of emergencies.

I wouldn't do that. Drilled tanks are superior to HOB overflows. If you can't drill the tank for whatever reason is when you should use a HOB overflow. I would suggest 1.25" holes, maybe two of them, again depending on the pump.
How much livestock do you have and how long are you planning on keeping them in a 24 gal. tank? I added a sump to my 55 and it was already set up, so needed to use a HOB overflow.

I would drill the tank. It depends on what size bulkhead you are going to use as to what size hole you are going to drill. Not much to building a stand, bet if you look hard enough you could find them online somewhere.

ive come up with a new idea i have some space next too the tank it measures 26inches wide 19inches deep and 27inches tall i thought i could make some sort of sump mainly to house the skimmer and heater etc, grow some pods and macro, i could use an overflow of some sort as the sump will be sat on the side of the tank were the over flow would be so it wouldnt have to travel far, and i could pump it back in the other end?

any one got any ideas as to what sort of sump or container would be that sort of measurment??

Or just use the search engine on our site - That's what it's there for :D

+1 on drilling the tank. WAYYYY better than siphon overflows IMO

what is wrong with the syphon system?? i would say that it would be better as ytou can take it off easy and not have the cost of the drilling, and the risk of the tank cracking??

please prove me wrong with this, i need to learn!! ;-)

If you get air in the syphon then you will loose water movement so the pump will continue pumping water to the display and then on the floor. With a drilled tank, the water only goes as high as your Durso Standpipes are.
