I was looking at my tank for the 102nd time today and everything looked awesome, I coldn't be prouder. Came back about 15 mintues later and I was not so proud. The corals were looking like total crap, like Ive never seen before. The first thing I thing I did was panick. After that, I busted out all the test kits and the hydrometer. After wasting atleast 10 minutes, I finally came to the part where I put my hands in the tank..which is when I found the problem. Turns out having the tank at 93 degrees isn't good.

My stealth heater (a measily 3 months old BTW) malfunctioned and went haywire. A half-seconds glance would have easily told me the problem, but instead I jumped right into thinking it was in the chemistry.

In short, when you have an ASAP moment, check the simple stuff first then work your way up; 10+ minuted is a long time for corals to be sitting in 93 degrees!

I have thought about putting my heater on a timer with a 4 hr cycle just because I have heard of them failing. Thanks for the post. I hope everything works out with no fatilities.

Good reason to invest in a controller.

I had one die completely in a couple months. Lucky for me, it just wouldn't turn on. Most that crap out overheat tanks. I would not buy another at all. Titanium all the way for me, on a controller.

Well, most of the frogspawn heads are coming back, 2 still dont look all that great. I also have 2 chalices that are still rather PO'd, I would really like to see them come back as they are my favorite corals.

Yeah, but Ive always heard great things about the Stealth heaters. And I really dont care too much about the "On" light as it is usually the case that its easier to look at the thermometer than it is to look for the ON light.
