Hello, I have a 40 gallon salt water tank with a juvenile emperor angelfish and a yellow tang. Is there any non aggressive fish that will work with these fish??

I was thinking a clown fish but I cannot supply a anemone for it.

Any suggestions for another fish ? and if so how many?

    Thanks!!!

    ohhh noo.......

be prepared for a ton of responses but let me start you off.

generally when creating a thread, its best to name the thread something that is basically a summary of your problem, in this case you could name it something along the lines of "additional stocking for a 40 gallon"

as for your question, both the fish you have in the tank are absolutely not suitable for it. i would suggest trading both them in and getting some more suitable fish. its a 40 gallon tank, you can fit several small sized fish in there.

edit: make that a couple small fish and possibly a medium sized one such as a smaller dwarf angel, or some sort of wrasse.

I agree, the angel might get territorial in a tank that size since you already have it in. Sometimes if you have other fish in the tank first they won't be as aggressive because they are the new addition.

When I bought the fish the guy said that it will just grow to size.. is that true or should I be worried?
    Thanks

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Unfortunately you received very bad advice from whoever sold you those fish. Neither is appropriate for a 40 gallon fish tank. Both beautiful fish but the reality is that unless you have a much larger tank 200+ gallons for the Angel waiting in the wings you should seriously consider rehoming both.

There are much better stocking options available for your tank. At least look a Liveaquaria.com for min tank size before shopping for fish.

It would behoove you to research the current practices regarding the treatment and prevention of Marine Ich.

Fish such as an angel will not grow to size. Even so it is still a 40g and is way to small for both the fish. They need ample swimming room that a 40g just doesn't have. I would seriously consider taking them back, speaking to a mgr or someone because the guy who gave you that advise was way way off and if they care at all about fish will at least give you credit.
Impulse buys are not good. It is best to see something and then do your research on it. Whether on a smart phone or go home, look it up or come ask here and you'll get good advise.
I just want to warn you that if you do decide not to adhere to the advise given then there may be some serious health issues with your fish, it may not happen today or tomorrow but it will happen. IMHO.
    Good luck!

You could put a flame angel in there :) nice and small! I'm sure there's someone around you that will buy them from you. The guy who sold you that emperor should be smacked. Those guys get about the size of my Physics textbook (Big!).

I might be able to save up to buy a bigger tank in the future. How long could I keep him in the tank he is in now before I need to transfer him?

If the angel is over 3" now, I'd give it a month or two.
