My LFS had a "late night party" last night and they received a mix shipment of 200 coral frags. They had just reopened and was not wanting to stress the systems out, so they had a first come, first serve sale for $15/frag. They had a bunch of montis, bunch of zoos, some acros (I did not see any) and some various LPS corals (bubbles, brains, favia etc) The shipment arrived at 10pm and sale was at 1030pm. So literally dumped into a tank and everyone (trust me lots of people) made a mad rush to just grab whatever they could get. They had no idea what was coming in

I was going to give up as it was a madhouse and couldnt get into the tank when an employee basically moved people out of the way for me ;D I was literally pushed by some lady before this point . Anyway I did find some really nice pieces, a med size encrusting red monti, a red flowerpot and a red/blue/pink/green zoa. It was really hard to tell what they were because 1. just arrived, and 2. everybody was manhandling them, 3. poor lighting

Anyway was coming home and was talking to Inwall and he reminded me to place them in the QT tank tonight and dip them in am. So I did (thank you Inwall!)

I placed them in the tank and I could see with my naked eye nudi on the zoa's and flatworms on the monti. My biggest fear is MEN as I had a wipeout in my tank a year ago or so. So I did use coralvive last night and then this morning FW dipped zoas, and lugols the other two pieces. Many nudi on the zoas, and hard to tell with the lugols but I could see flatworms in the water, not sure if any MEN or not

My point being....is this was trans-shipped and I have a feeling many stores are trans-shipping due to the lower cost. (Means basically comes direct from the ocean from what I understand)

Just a little reminder....only takes a few minutes to protect your tank, and will cause a long long time problem and lots of money if you dont. I probably would have just tossed them in the DT last night if I was not reminded of this, so now I am reminding you all;D

I agree, Allot of times I pass up corals that just came in because of this. It makes it harder to get stuff because there usually gone when I come back week or 2 later.I know its hard though you see a piece and want it right away.
    Good advice schackmel.
