I think the danger in this hobby, and especially on forums is repetion. I am guilty of this, so probably are you. This is where these guidlines originate. For example, someone posts "baby clams must be fed phyto". Someone on another forum asks a question about baby clams. Those words are repeated over across forums, and a false statement becomes truth because he/she/everyone says it.

The only true rules I live by are the rules I have learned the hardway over years of experience in this hobby. This is not to be taken out of context to say I know it all and have nothing left to learn. This in fact, would be far from the truth. What I am saying is I take my current knowledge and compare it to others opinions on the matter and make a judgement call. This hobby is constantly evolving. Some is overkill and some is...wow I never thought I would see this day. Any info recieved on any forum should be researched further before acting IMHO.

Unfortunately this is how it works on the internet. Recently I found a hitchhiker that I think is a pseudocorynactis so I've been trying to do some research on them to better ID it. You would not believe the amount of repetition I've found. I've spent hours and hours looking and I keep finding the exact same info from about 3 sources that people are just doing a cut and paste.

This is just one particular subject. I can see where it would be easy to assume that just because the same info keeps showing up over and over that it must be true.

I did read the entire post and I found your first sentence the exact opposite of what you claim. I found some of your "examples" contradictory. i.e. a nem in a tank that is not cycled will not thrive, but die once the tank starts cycling due to the high nitrates. I took your post as just another pointless thread to try to get people to stop giving advice or suggesting things that you don't agree with and constantly take the wrong way.

    Just my $0.02.

I'm sorry but the LoL factor on this one is pretty high.

Today you say you've seen nems thrive but I have lots count of the threads you told new purchase'ers they are gonna die. You've seen & now owned overstocked tanks regardless of the amount of times you have told other people to take fish back to a LFS.

This is but a twist on the normal BVB change the answer from A to B and back to A then to C as those with the expereince chime in.

I think the ultimate moral of the story is BVB is trying to between the lines apologize for some of the arguements he causes being so embattled on certain subjects. I can only hope this is a sign of a more well thought out, mature and intellgent posts in the future, but only time will tell.

i am in no way trying to apologise as i dont believe i have anything to apologise for, thats the point i was trying to make and i made that clear several times. i and everybody on this thread has done that many times, tell people their tank is overstocked or their tank isnt established enough for a nem. i think you guys are not understanding the point i am trying to make khowst and xmetal.

I disagree. I haven't told anyone that their tank is to young for a nem. I tell people a tank is onverstocked rarely. I don't believe that a tank can only be able to handle a nem after a certain period of time. My tank is considered overstocked by many, but my filtration can keep up with the bioload easily.

Why wouldn't we give constructive criticism when someone asks for help or advice? You do this often, then battle with everyone who is just trying to help you out.

Everybody keeps tanks differently and there is no one right way to have a successful tank. The point of forums like this is to get as much information on ways to keep a successful tank. All the different ideas, thought processes for theories, options, and examples help the hobby and hobbyists progress. The more one finds out about different topics, the better they can make a decision for themselves. I for one will continue giving constructive criticism when asked and advice on subjects whether or not it is different from what everyone else is saying or the original poster's objection to my thoughts. That is how we learn.

I understand the point you are trying to make. I just find the original post a pointless rambling on of an incoherent thought. The way i read the original post is you asking people to just leave you alone and let you do whatever you want. No one here has a problem with that. people do have a problem with being asked for advice then being told they are wrong by you. If you already know the answer why ask the question?
