Keeping an open mind before bashing on someone's tank is a good idea. I've seen quite a few of your controversial post's. So, good for you. I myself could work on that too.

forums will be forums and everyone has their opinions that they feel compelled to share whether they are adding substance to the discussion or not. I've quickly learned who to ignore and who to listen too or ask for advice.

If you are trying to educate someone one on a topic, bashing them for what they are doing isn't the right approach. As soon as someone senses aggression they will pull back and become defensive and it is tough to have a coherent discussion. Especially when a 15 year old kid or even a 25 year old kid is trying to sound tough and discipline a grown man that has been keeping reef tanks longer than the said kid has been walking.

I've learned it isn't what you say, but how you say it. Everyone should try and be a little more considerate and think twice about posting rash comments. I've been guilty of this as most have but I'm trying to improve.

This is exactly what ppl are talking about. You make no sense, in your OP you are saying not to give advice or criticize ppls tanks. And here in this quote you say you learned most of your info from a forum member. When I joined this forum, I was turned away very quickly and even went to another forum, specificly because every time I read a thread to try and educate myself, it was filled with your arguements and contradicting statements. I remember just the other day someone quoted all of your posts in ONE thread and grouped them together and you told the OP 3 different statements in the same thread. Hopefully you take the posts in this thread and read them and learn to have a more positive attitude when making suggestions in the future.

i have had a few people already agree with me on this subject and if you wish to criticize me do so, it will only add to what i am saying. i just dont hink you guys that are commenting rudely fully grasp the point i am trying to make, many are but a few are not.

Because in your original post you talk about how there are no rules and every tank is different and that there can only be guidelines to go by. Yet you are the one person that will be sure to tell everyone that they are doing something wrong and then spout off a bunch of "rules" they need to follow. Its like saying black is your favorite color and then telling everyone else that white is the best.

Sorry, BVB, I'm going to have to say this is very true.
You just changed your answer to fit what everyone else was saying.

I wasn't going to post anything because I only see this thread ending badly. I would like to say that I believe when people offer their opinions they do do based on personal experience. Sure there is a lot of heresay. If I tell someone that I don't think they should put a wild caught mandarin in a small tank I am doing so because I starved one of the poor guys when I was young in the hobby. I ignored most of the info out there and decided to listen to the few that had similar setups and been successful and I thought my experience would be the exception and not the rule. I am not trying to start a new mandarin/tang debate just saying that the rules and guidelines are usually pretty reliable. Of course there are exceptions, but when a more experienced aquarist chimes in that a new reefer should'nt put a blue whale in a 5gallon tank it isn't because we want to rain on parades it is because we have probably screwed up ourselves and are trying to save you and the animals we love some grief.

All I'm saying is, when someone suggests something, the usual response is "so and so did it", "or look at this tank, its working in there". Just because its done, doesn't mean its right.

We could just all go ahead and accept the fact that our boy here is 15, and that he is a slipknot fan.:cheesy:
