Okay so I purchased a watermelon zoo on ebay and was doing some research and found that some can be very toxic. Wikipedia says to use gloves when handling...is this really true? Are they that dangerous?

No. They might slime up, but some people see a little slime and flip out 'oh my gosh, it's toxic!' They'll be a great addition to your tank, enjoy them.:)

I also was wondering where is the best placement for these? Up high close to the lighting? I have T5's

We have zoas all over our tank, on large rock on the sandbed, several about midway up the water column, and one closer to the top...We are running 8 T5's at 432 watts and they are thriving and constantly multiplying...Hope this helps...

most zoas and palys are VERY toxic to humans but you will be fine. If you are fragging or squeezing them for any reason, I would suggest safety glasses and gloves. I have a friend who got zoa juice in his eye and he was blind in that eye for about a week and it was swollen for another. Palytoxin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia by the way you will have to play with them as far as placement goes. I have found that every zoa colony is different. Move them around about every other week and see where you get the best color.
