    Congrats, they are good units.

The two indispensible additions IMO are a dual TDS meter, I like having one before and after the DI stage so you can tell how your membrane is performing and how your DI is performing, also the auto shutoff kit is mandatory IMO. It's so easy to forget about the RO unit running, this WILL save you at least one flood in your first year of use. ;D

I can almost guarantee that pretty much everyone who has an RO unit has had some amount of water overflow before they had an autoshutoff. It's not as big of a deal for some people as others so it depends what your situation is (water on a concrete basement floor with a drain = non-issue, water on a carpeted floor = potential issue).

Also consider how you're going to hook it up to your water supply. I got one of their adapters that go underneath the sink on the cold water supply, it makes it so easy to use, it stays connected and I just turn the valve to run the RO unit.

I was thinking about getting the tds meter, its not very expensive so I think i'll get it as well. how long do the filter membranes usually last?

The dual TDS is very important to have. Also, the flush kit is a nice addition as they are supposed to increase the length of your membrane. I don't worry about flooding as I just fill up 5 gallon water jugs and place them in the sink while I am doing this. I have forgotten the unit was running a number of times, so if you are filling up a stationary water holder, I would get the shut off too.

Thanks for the idea with the bay sink. Just set up a RO system and left it running and overflowed.

How important is the DI system? It goes after the RO membrane, correct?

The DI is the only way to guarantee zero TDS. RO membranes are generally only something like 90-95% efficient I believe so you usually will get single digit TDS out of them (although it depends what your tap TDS is at). The DI does go after the RO membrane, correct.
