Can I ask what you are thinking of when you say "stopping power" ? Stopping what exactly ? I was once in this dream when I had to point this rifle at another human being and pull the trigger before he pulled his trigger, my 7.62 round punched the majority of his head and it's contents onto the vehicle behind him, and that stopped him, I gave that weapon away when my uniform was returned and I pray that I will never need to have "stopping power again"

I don't see the draw or the excitement with weapons, I don't have a problem with anyone owning a weapon, but I do have concerns when our government sends our soldiers to these "terrible countries" where atrocities occur, under the premise that our soldiers will make "people feel safe in their homes, and enable them to go about their rightful business and lives, without the fear of being attacked, killed or kidnapped" When at home we have our own people who feel unsafe enough to want to "bear arms" for self protection and preservation. Kind of seems double standards to me ?

The sound of gun fire still makes me want to release the safety and get ready to send the aggressor to meet his maker, I did it for a job and chose it for the right reasons, I never want t own a weapon because I don't feel safe at home . . . . . . . . . . . Otherwise is it really home ?
Not a lecture, just my opinion, to which i have earned the right to express.

Peace out my friends and fish brothers.

If it's legal and it makes you feel safer or happier then do it. You can't always live in optimum locations since your occupation may not exist where you would like to live. The topic of where our government sends our troops then restricts their actions so they don't piss off other countries will be pages by itself.

Back to the topic, I'm a 1911 guy but whatever you're more comfortable with is better than something you don't like to shoot. Someday I want to build a wide body 1911 in .45 but if your hands aren't that big you wouldn't feel comfortable with it. I may not be the best judge of recoil but 9's have a little, and .45's have more but not that much. When you step up to a 10mm and the magnums you're going to feel the recoil. The weight of a gun also has an effect on the recoil. A friend had a Desert Eagle in .357 and said the recoil was very little but it's also over 5 pounds when full of ammo and not something you're going to conceal. The only handgun I shot and wasn't impressed with was a Glock but some love them.

Well, based on the amount of responses to this topic, I think I just came up with the perfect business idea- Astrick117's Reef/ Gun Warehouse!

I mean I have thought about carrying too. My bangaii cardinal has been giving me some pretty scary looks here of late.

Right now my only semi auto handgun is a ww2 early nazi issue p38. Yes numbers match and its an AC. With proper bullets, nothing will walk away from 1 round.

A 25 auto will suffice, and a 380 works well too.

I had a 10 mm ruger semi auto p89 IIRC. It was a nice piece, but I gambled on the 10mm vs the. 40 s&w for choice of rounds, and the military went with the 40. You can still get 10 mm ammo but yeah its pricey compared to. 40 s&w or 9mm.

The lc9 is a very nice ccw, the laser is nice, but ccw pieces are typically not even needed to be aimed with sights of any kind.

My dad's lcp in. 380 with the laser sight works well for cc work, but yeah clicking off more than a clip of ammo feels weird with a small sized gun like that.

I really like the glock 23 too, but the top of my wishlist is a h&k mark 23. I' m a big dude, so cc'ing the mark 23 is doable. Lol

I too live in the land of liberals here in California. I have a 9mm Desert Eagle. I agree that while the 9mm doesn't have much stopping power, my frame weights a ton so I can beat someone with it if I need to. I was lucky enough to work for a sporting goods store at the time the 15 round clips were outlawed so I bought the last one.

My dad has a .380 also fun gun to shoot but it pinched the hell out of my hand right in the webbing of my thumb when the slide returned.

Yep, big hands, little gun = possible pinching.
Get some really nice drt or similar ammo for the 9, and stopping power wont ever be an issue.
