I have heard of them, but never seen one in action, sorry. So basically this is just a bump for you!

I would not use a nitrate coil. i believe there is a way for them to toxify your tank if something goes wrong with them. The best way to control your nitrates, other than good husbandry which we know sometimes isn't quite enough, is going to be with GFO. Carbon will do nothing for nitrates btw but will make your water crystal clear and take the odor out.

Chaeto, the larger the basket of it, the better., skimmer too, plentyof LR, and a back wall covered with corrailline alge helps also.

Don't know about the coils- I have heard of them, now nothing about them

Well I will say this after doing research I won't do the coil. When I saw it can poison a tank I stop looking at it. Ik I will have cheato in my hob fug and a skimmer. Also a reactor with gfo in it. I should be just fine I don't plan on feeding evetday more like every other to every 2 days

I made one and used it for about a year but saw no reduction in nitrate.

i was tempted to set one up but decided otherwise. iv had some success with redsea NOPOX but most will tell you (and rightfully so) that using such supplements is fighting the symptoms not the illness.

+1 to swisswis. Find the source. Stocking, overfeeding, detrius etc. Curious why you are preparing for your nitrates to get out of control? I think my preparation for that is the same as my back up plan for any of a number of fish tank emergencies....water change on stand by! I keep a 30 gal bucket with water mixed and ready to go so i can at least fix a problem while i look for the root cause. Never heard of a nitrate coil before. What it the theory behind it?
